Unidentified flying objects, more commonly known as UFOs are a phenomenon that cannot be identified by the observer. However, studies have shown that UFOs in the majority of cases are relabeled IFO, Identified Flying Objects. However there are still those flying objects that cannot be explained. Over time stricter definitions of UFOs have been created.
In the United Kingdom, sightings of UFOs have dated back as far as 1978. Forrester Robert Taylor reported seeing an extraterrestrial spacecraft in Dechmont Law Hill, in West Lothian Scotland. This was reported as being the first reported UFO case that criminally investigated and became known as the Livingston Incident and the Dechmont Woods Encounter. He saw a large circular object hovering in the sky just above the forest floor. He claims to have passed out from a gas emitted from the object. The official explanation was that he witnessed a mirage of Venus.
In 1980 a number of people reported seeing a series of unexplained lights in the sky. In addition to the lights in the sky, people added that there was a landing of an extraterrestrial spacecraft in December in the vicinity of Suffolk, England. This event has been ranked as one of the best UFO sightings in all of Britain. It has even been compared to the Roswell UFO incident in the United States.
Several years passed before the next reported case of UFO sightings in the United Kingdom. The Howden Moore Incident took place on March 24th, 1997. Two sonic booms were reported in the Dark Peak area. However, the RAF denied any supersonic aircrafts flying in the area.
They later took part in a nightlong search for any fallen aircrafts. No wreckage was found in the area. However, an hour after the search ended viewers reported seeing a UFO type vehicle flying away from the area.
In 2000, in Derbyshire a woman claimed to have observed a luminous object shining in the sky. Sharon Rowlands caught this flying object on video. The video itself was shot out of focus and as a result a large portion of the video was blurry. However at one point during the video observers could make out a series of concentric circles similar to that of a photographic orb. This sighting was later reported in the local newspaper and the daily news.
