The Roswell Crash
The Roswell Crash
The Roswell crash happened in the town of Roswell in New Mexico in 1947. This is perhaps the best known so-called UFO sighting in the world. The incident started around 4th July 1947 when a rancher found some debris on his ranch after hearing an explosion. The debris that he found was odd so he took it to the local sheriff who then called in military personnel from the Roswell base. They then sent a team to the crash site to investigate.
The Roswell Army Air Field (RAAF) issued a press statement on July 8th, 1947 saying that they had found what they termed a ‘flying disc’ that seemed to have crash landed on a ranch near Roswell. Later on that day they amended their statement to say that this wasn’t a flying saucer but was actually part of a weather balloon that had crashed. The base later held a press conference where they showed journalists debris from the crash site which seemed to tally with the weather balloon story which closed the matter off for a few years.
In 1978 a UFO expert (Stanton T. Friedman) met with one of the Roswell personnel who had been involved with the incident (Major Jesse Marcel). He then claimed that the crash had actually involved an alien space ship and that the US military had been covering up this fact. Major Marcel told Friedman that the debris that had been recovered had included items that looked like wood but which would not burn or show any damage even when hit with a sledgehammer. He also stated that a lot of the debris that had been collected had had unidentifiable hieroglyphic writing on it.
In the following years speculation over what had actually happened at Roswell was rife and more witnesses came forward to corroborate Major Marcel’s claims. Further details here said that the US military actually had a special operations unit that solely worked on recovering space ships and aliens and that Roswell was just one of many such cases. Then, in 1989, Glenn Dennis, a retired mortician, made the claim that alien autopsies had been made at Roswell following the incident.
The military was eventually ordered to complete an inquiry into what happened at Roswell. Their findings formed two reports. The first, which was published in 1995, stated that the debris found at Roswell was probably from a secret project known as Project Mogul. The second report which was published in 1997 stated that the alien bodies that people claimed to have seen were probably simply a case of people getting confused over the bodies of military personnel and dummies that were used in exercises. The report also stated that many statements here were hoaxes.
These reports failed to convince many UFO specialists and experts who still believe that Roswell was the site of a major alien crash site and that bodies of aliens were indeed recovered from the crash by the military.
