Famous UFO Sightings


There have been all kinds of UFO sightings all over the world by all kinds of people - some are more famous than others. In recent times these sightings seem to have taken off from the 1940s onwards. Let’s take a look at some of the more famous UFO sightings worldwide.

Kenneth Arnold - 1947

The sightings made by Kenneth Arnold seemed to spark our interest in UFO sightings. He claimed to have seen nine flying saucer type objects in Washington state in the US.

The Roswell Crash - 1947

In 1947 UFO experts believe that Roswell was the site of an alien space craft’s crash landing and that the military recovered debris and alien bodies from the site. The military at the time initially said that they had recovered parts of a ‘flying disc’ but then changed their statement to say that a weather balloon had crash landed.

The Roswell Alien Autopsy - 1947

In 1995 a film maker - Ray Santilli - released footage that supposedly showed the autopsy of aliens recovered from the Roswell site. The jury is out on whether the footage was a hoax or not.

McMinnville Sightings - 1950

In 1950 Paul Trent, a local farmer, took photos of apparent UFOs in the sky. These photos have not yet been discredited.

The Kinross Jet - 1953

In 1953 a military jet aircraft was despatched to check out an unidentified object that had come up on the radar over Lake Superior in the United States. As the jet approached the object its radar blip merged into the radar blip of the other object which then left. The jet and its crew completely disappeared, leaving no trace.

The Hill Abductions - 1963

In 1963 a couple, Barney and Betty Hill, claimed that they had ‘lost’ time on a car journey and had both been abducted by aliens. Both of the Hills were questioned under hypnosis and described much the same experiences.

The Kecksburg Crash - 1965

Kecksburg was the site of an alien object that came down out of the sky like a fireball. Four independent witnesses saw the object land. Many other witnesses also claim that the US military then moved in to remove the object.

Billy Meier and the Plejarans - 1975

A Swiss man, Billy Meier, claimed to have been in regular contact with an alien race called the Plejarans. He has also taken over 1000 photos of UFOs.

Rendlesham Forest - 1980

In 1980 various civilians and some American military personnel who were based at local bases all saw strange lights and an object in the forest which could not be explained.

The Belgian Triangle - 1989-90

Belgium saw hundreds of reports of objects in this period - many of which were described in the same way (i.e. large and triangular). Despite tracking the objects via radar and in the air no explanation was found and the government even agreed to work with UFO experts.

The O’Hare Sightings - 2006

In 2006 a variety of independent witnesses claimed to have seen a small round object hovering over one of the airport’s gates.
